The September 22, 1938- in the middle of furious fighting on the Ebro river- in the vain illusion to obtain the retereat also of Italian and German contingents, the Spanish Government informed the League of Nations decision to call from the front all the international volunteers and ask the establishment of a commission to control the effective withdrawal of all foreign fighters. With this formal act ended the epic of the international volunteers and the birth of one of the greatest myths of the twentieth century. Although the protagonists of those events are now almost all died, the adventure of 'los hombres mehores mundo to' continue to be of interest to specialists and lovers of history and are hereby rescheduled for an updated contribution to the military history of the anti-fascist formations |
